The Museum of Anthropology at UBC is one of Arthur Erickson's most celebrated works — a soaring Great Hall of glass and concrete filled with monumental First Nations art, opening onto an ocean-facing cliff. Events here happen in the museum's off-hours (rentals run 5–11 PM, with Thursday public late-nights as the only exception).
Three distinct event spaces work together or independently: the dramatic Great Hall itself, the museum grounds with their ocean views, and an outdoor event pad that can be tented for larger receptions. MOA publishes a 1,000-guest overall cap across the full footprint.
For corporate cultural events, donor galas, and weddings with a reverent or intellectual tenor, MOA is in a class of its own — nowhere else in the city combines Erickson's architecture with the UBC cliff-top outlook.

Operational notes from our coordinators — the things that affect how a quote comes together for this venue.
- Rental hours
- Events run 5 PM to 11 PM any evening except Thursdays (museum is open late to the public). Setup and load-in typically start at 3 PM.
- Kitchen
- Many Vancouver venues have warming or prep kitchens only (not full hot-cooking lines). We bring our own mobile induction + convection units when needed — already factored into the per-guest rate for this venue.
- Bar
- For venues without an in-house liquor licence, we coordinate through our hospitality partners under a BC Special Event Permit — one itemised wine/beer/spirits line on your quote, no hidden markup.
- Art protection
- Events must respect the museum's collection — no open flame near the carvings, specific catering paths around displays. We've cleared these protocols with MOA on past events.
- Location
- UBC campus is ~25 min from downtown without traffic. We recommend guest shuttles from a downtown hotel for larger events.

What type of events suit MOA?
Donor galas, cultural/arts organisations, university milestone events, and weddings with cultural significance. The museum's collection sets a reverent tone — raucous party atmospheres are a poor fit.
Can we have a ceremony at MOA?
Yes, in the Great Hall, on the museum grounds, or on the event pad. Sunset-timed outdoor ceremonies overlooking the ocean are the signature option.
How far in advance should we book?
MOA books 12–18 months in advance for summer Saturdays. Off-season weekdays are often available within 3–6 months.
